Site identification

The step of identifying locations to install the ocean energy converters devices is essential for obtaining the technical and economic feasibility of the project. Although this energetic potential in ocean phenomena (like waves, tides and currents) is quite superior in comparison to the current demands for energy, this resource is scattered at the sea. However, there are regions with higher energetic density, pointing more promising locations for conversion.

The identification of sites is based on the compilation of past data and hydro-oceanographic surveys of a selected region. Those informations are used to form a preliminary and comprehensive database about the characteristics of the existing sea region. They are consolidated into a Geographic Information System (GIS) that allows the inclusion of current data as well as future monitoring data.
